Catalyst Blog [happenings and other things at catalyst]
A few days ago I posted a tweet from Rick Warren to catalystchurch.net. There is a Twitter feed at the bottom of the homepage. If you don't know what Twitter is you should really check it out. It's basically a social networking tool that allows you to share what's on your mind in 140 characters or less. I have scaled back on Twitter a lot in recent weeks because I have discovered it can eat away a lot of time. Plus, I think that people share a lot of useless things (I have committed to only sharing things if they will be uplifting or thought-provoking in some way). But I will occasionally forward something along from folks who have something good to say.
Most people are familiar with Rick Warren. He said something a few days ago that I "retweeted." He said, "If God doesn't GIVE you a miracle it is because he wants to MAKE you a miracle for someone else. See 2 Cor.4:7-18." This has gotten me thinking a lot about the role of Catalyst here in our Cullman communities. Today alone I have had several conversations with folks who are either in need of something themselves or they are connected to people who have needs. And I don't mean this one really needs a cup of coffee or that one needs a new shirt. I'm talking about people who have real needs...like clean drinking water or shoes or food for their children.
Part of the reason the church exists is to be a hand reaching out to our community. But, unfortunately, we don't always get it right. And if we're waiting on the government to get it things together we will be waiting a long time. So it really boils down to people. People helping people. It is within our power to be a miracle for someone else. Is it wrong to hope for or pray for miracles for ourselves? No. But the next time you ask for a miracle think about that person in your life who could use a miracle as well. Then go be that miracle. You don't have to ask God's permission. You already have it.
